The hull, the coating and the setting matter.
Marine work needs a method matched to the substrate and coating system. We assess the surface and site requirements before recommending laser cleaning.
Start with the substrate
Steel, aluminium and composite surfaces respond differently. Material and coating information guide the suitability assessment.
Agree the coating scope
Tell us what must be removed and what must remain, including primers, barrier coats and existing protective finishes.
Plan containment
Antifoul and other coating residues require appropriate collection and handling. Laser cleaning does not remove that responsibility.
Coordinate the work
Share the boat location, access, haul-out arrangements and maintenance schedule so we can assess the practical scope.
Match the method to the marine project.
The best method depends on the surface, contamination and required finish. We will tell you when another approach is more suitable.
| Consideration | Laser cleaning | Other preparation methods |
|---|---|---|
| Small components & fittings | Consider for suitable localised work | Workshop preparation may also suit |
| Antifoul and layered coatings | Confirm practicality with assessment | Established stripping methods may be better |
| Composite hulls | Do not assume suitability without testing | Substrate protection is essential for any method |
| Large hull areas | Time and coating thickness affect viability | Bulk removal methods may be faster |
| Residues & site controls | Agree capture and handling with the site | Containment and disposal are still required |
Quick answers.
No. The coating system, thickness and hull material need assessment. We will not assume that laser cleaning is appropriate for every antifoul or hull.
Composite surfaces and gelcoat need careful assessment and a representative test before any cleaning method is confirmed. Provide details of the hull and protective layers.
Suitable metal components may be candidates for surface cleaning. Cleaning does not repair corrosion damage or establish whether a part is fit for service.
Send photos, dimensions, the hull or component material, coating details and the work location. For hull work, include haul-out access and the yard or site requirements.
